Specimen mounting on the Taber Linear Abraser

Specimen mounting on the Taber Linear Abraser

When performing test trials with the Taber Linear Abraser, it is important to determine a suitable sample holder, as the size and shape of the material being tested for wear is varied, so as to ensure that the specimen is held in place. If the product is changed or moved during the test, inconsistent wear paths may become more frequent, which will compromise the test results.

It is recommended that the specimen is tested as close to the spline shaft as possible. This reduces the force arm of the spline shaft, which in turn will minimise the tendency of the spline shaft to deflect when the test attachment is dragged across the specimen. In order to reproduce the test results, it is important that this specimen is not interfered with by the movement of the test attachment and that the specimen is positioned in the same way for each test and mounting method.

T-slot universal table.

The T-slot universal table offers a large test surface area and can accommodate up to 5/16" and 3/8" T-slot configuration clips. the T-slot universal table has two T-slot configuration clips which will ensure that zui flat specimens, as well as other shapes, can be fixed. There are also isolation strips that can be used to raise the surface by approximately 2 inches. It is recommended to minimise deflection of the spline shaft when testing flat samples.

An optional sample holder plate can be used with the T-slot universal table. Use the wide slot sample holder kit to hold flat, semi-flexible or flexible samples.

Lightweight, flexible materials (e.g. textiles) can be fixed to the T-slot universal table using the optional sample holder plate. An 8mm diameter rod is placed under the sample to provide pre-tension and reduce movement in the test sample. The sample holding plate includes an 11mm x 140mm opening.

The T-slot universal table is recommended for use when testing data cards in the Magnetic Stripe Wear Kit sample holder. This table has a recessed area to hold the data card securely in place. The semi-circular finger holes make it easy to remove the data card after the test is complete.

The wire clamps ensure that the wire or cable sample is kept in position during the test. For use, the post is designed to be at least 3.5" long and 0.037 - 0.098" in diameter. The support section includes raised areas with 0.080 radius cutouts to place the specimen in the holder. Attaches to the T-slot Universal Table with two T-slot fasteners.

Universal Specimen Table.

The Universal Sample Table is a versatile sample holder for the Taber Linear Abraser which includes three interchangeable jaws. The standard bench jaws include nylon jaws that provide a "gentle grip" and open approximately 57 mm. The wide opening bench vise head jaws are designed to open to approximately 150mm ribbing. The neoprene padded jaws have a good grip and will form a "V" grip on cylindrical objects when reversed. The third interchangeable head is the fixture head, which has a flat diameter surface of 135.

The universal sample table has a low profile mounting which includes a 'split ball' design. This allows the sample positioning vise head to be tilted, rotated or swivelled. The universal sample stage is mounted to the bottom of the linear grinding stone to ensure that it does not move during testing.
